Kalandanya Music Promotions drags PF to court debt for music production services

Bwalya Kalandanya trading as Kalandanya Music Promotions has sued the Patriotic Front party acting secretary-general demanding payment of K13.5 million for music services rendered to the party during last year’s General Election campaigns.

Kalandanya has cited PF acting secretary general Nickson Chilangwa.

The money he is demanding is for the production, promotion, development of campaign songs, and political advertisements.

He is also demanding damages for breach of contract.

Kalandanya stated that he was approached between April and May 2021 to provide the music services to PF and on June 12, last year, he entered an agreement with PF through the PF national chairman.

He stated that it was agreed that he provides music production and facilities that included but were not limited to recording, studio hire, mastering marketing, promotion, and remixing of campaign songs during the campaign period which ended on August 11, 2021.

Kalandanya, however, stated that despite him providing the music services, PF has failed to pay him the agreed amount of K13.5 million during the tenure of the agreement.

He stated that his several demand letters have been ignored and he has suffered loss and damages due to the failure by the PF to pay him the money.

He is demanding payment of the money with interest and any other relief the court might deem fit

This is according to a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court principal registry by KBF and Partners.

Rojadirecta creators to go on trial in Spain over piracy

MADRID (AP) — The creators and administrators of the website Rojadirecta will go on trial over piracy allegations for providing illegal links to Spanish league matches, the league said Tuesday.

The league and broadcaster Mediapro have asked for prison sentences of up to six years for those involved. Prosecutors seek a prison sentence of up to four years. Bail will be set at 4 million euros ($4.5 million).

A Spanish court will set a date for the trial on charges of a breach of intellectual property.

Prosecutors said those being accused gained significant benefits through advertising sales on the sites that offered the illegal links. They say those accused also benefitted from commissions for redirecting traffic to betting sites.

The legal process against Rojadirecta began in 2015. The site’s creator was detained a year later and set free on condition he reported to court every month.

The league last month had another favorable ruling in its longstanding anti-piracy fight when court-ordered internet providers to block sites providing illegal links to matches.
